On July 18, 2014, Addie, a sweet dog rescued four years ago from the Sullivan County, TN, Animal Shelter,
was a victim of sexual abuse that left her with a 50/50 chance of
survival and required surgery at the University of Tennessee in
Knoxville. Her rapist was a handyman employed and trusted by the family; he had lavished affection on Addie and built her trust during his time working for the family. In response to the crime committed against Addie, many people have come together online via Facebook to
follow her recovery, advocate for
her, and work to change existing animal abuse laws.
This group is seeking to ensure that James Michael Foran, the
registered sex offender who attacked Addie, is punished to the fullest
extent of the law and kept away from our pets and children. This group
also plans to advocate for change in the existing animal abuse laws in
order to ensure that future victims receive justice.
Here is a Kingsport Times-News article about her story.
